Sunday at the Market
Julie Franczek
Summer's officially here, and so are barbecues, boat rides, cocktails on the deck... or spending your Sunday selling buckles at the art market. Do I sound like I'm complaining? Nope, not a bit. Sure, there's mulch to be spread in my garden, the lawn to be mowed and the dog to be walked but I truly missed my Sundays under the canopy at the market in Grand Haven, MI. and am glad it's that time of year again!
The Grand Haven Sunday Art Market is the first Sunday of every month, June through September
Since this was the first market of the season, I'm always curious to see which vendors have return and who's new to the mix. We've got our usual suspects: hand made bags, jewelry, painting and photography along with a woodworker and hand painted bottles. This year I was excited to see an extremely talented clothing designer showing off his hand made threads. All in all, a lot of local talent. One thing I can count on, there won't be another "belt buckle artist".
I love seeing the look on peoples' faces when they come up to my display and say "Oh, buckles! I've never see anything like this before." And although I know belt buckles aren't for everyone, I can usually spot the ones who are going to look great wearing one! Sure enough, they usually stop and browse and sometimes buy. It thrills me when people say "This is going to be the perfect gift for (fill in the blank)".
The dog got walked later, the lawn got mowed during the week and I got to spend part of my Sunday enjoying the opportunity to show off my wears, meet new people and see old friends. So if you're in the area on the first Sunday of the month, visit the market under the green canopy in Grand Haven.
Several very talented artist, but only one What the Buckle.
